Time and expenses

Charging schemes

LawPage clients can set up different charging schemes depending on the client and the nature of the case. Charging schemes can be:

  • Fixed fees
  • Graduated according to pre-defined criteria (i.e. a certain amount for a specified part of the work, and a certain amount for additional work)
  • Charged against actual time spent on a case, with the ability to charge different activities (such as preparation, attendance, and travel) at different rates.

If a LawPage client acts for the same client for two or more different matters, different charging schemes can be applied to each matter.

Incidental expenses and disbursements

The LawPage app handles all matter-related disbursements and incidental expenses.  They are:

  • Included in the invoice that is generated to the client (with the correct VAT attributed)
  • Passed through to Xero in preparation for the VAT return and end of year accounts.

There is no duplication of effort – the data is entered once (in LawPage) and the system handles the rest!

VAT returns

LawPage makes it easy for the barristers VAT returns to be submitted digitally. If preferred, an individual barrister’s accountant / bookkeeper can submit these returns on the barrister’s behalf using Xero, and have instant access to information that is required for the barrister’s end of year submission.
